HIATUS!

I'm working two jobs and am going on hiatus with this blog. I will be checking in about once a month just to see if any of you have left comments or e-mailed me. I hope that you will look through my archives and find something that inspires you to remain proud of your NEVER MARRIED NO KIDS status!

It seems like those words mostly bring up dating clubs and lonely hearts mourning their fate or feeling angry (as I do sometimes) by being so discriminated against! I hope that the two years that I've been blogging this issue has moved us to awareness, if not resolution of those problems.

THANKSGIVING DINNER ! THOSE NASTY RELATIVES !

Don't know about you but I've had some real nasty "Family" Thanksgiving Dinners!

BECAUSE I BROUGHT A FRIEND WHO HAD NOWHERE ELSE TO GO ALONG, it was assumed that this man was an important relationship... LIKE, "MAYBE SHE'S GOING TO GET MARRIED!" The poor guy endured a lot of personal questions, like he was being interviewed to see if he was husband material. A relative had the nerve to tell him I had "Commitment Phobia" which isn't true at all. So here are some things to be thankful for! THAT THOSE KIDS RUNNING AROUND THE HOUSE get to go home with someone else at the days end!

DUMPED MY PLATONIC GUY FRIEND BECAUSE HIS NEW GIRLFRIEND...

and HIS KIDS, think he should not have any relationships with "past" women. This slam of BS occurred the other day and through an e-mail communication. My friend and I used to have lunch once or twice a month but a few months ago he seemed to disappear off the map. So, as a friend, I called once in a while, but he would say he was busy at work, or that we would have lunch, and then never seem to get around to calling back. He quit me. So wondering if maybe he was actually in financial trouble (Bernie, you know) or ill, I sent him a message asking him if he was angry with me. Open the conversation a bit, I thought.

Instead I got a message back from him that we could no longer go to lunch because this new girlfriend has moved in with him...

Hey this reminds me of being the single friend who gets dumped right after showing up at the wedding and giving an expensive gift.

LIBRARY GRANDMA's READ TO KIDS but what about those who NEVER GAVE BIRTH?

At my public library they have a program in which elder women read to children. They are posted as GRANDMOTHERS. Now I can't know if they all are in fact GRANDMOTHERS. The implication is that only old grannies are good for babysitting and reading to their surrogate grandchildren. There are no GRANDFATHERS, and a few pictures posted with these volunteers are of women who look to be very young for grandmother-hood.

Here's an article from CNN, a bit more than a year old, in which it's stated that maybe MARRIAGE IS FOR WHITE WOMEN. According to this article nearly half of all African American women have never been married.

Now there's nothing in the article about living together or having children without marriage.
But I thought it would be interesting for you to read anyway.

RALPHS (KROGER COMPANY) POINTS SYSTEM DESCRIMINATED AGAINST NMNK

You shop at Ralphs, which is owned by the Kroger company, and you use those RALPHS REWARDS cards for the advertised discounts, which really should be for everyone right? But no discount without the card, which no doubt is keeping track of what you buy and is a marketing tactic. You need to buy LOTS OF FOOD to get enough points $5 reward for the first 500. As a single person it's near impossible to get a reward at all. I HAVE NEVER, and I do eat! Now I suppose if I threw expensive bottles of wine in (but I barely drink), and maybe some expensive cuts of meat for a dinner party, maybe then I'd get 500 points.... YOU KNOW WHAT I THINK?

SINGLE PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS PAYING MORE TO TRAVEL, FOR FOOD, and two people who are married and who cohabitate legally get HEALTH INSURANCE for far less than two single people who cohabitant as roommates, MARRIAGE HAS FINANCIAL and LEGAL BENEFITS and that is what it's often about - not love!

NO CHILDREN MEANS CONTRACEPTION, ABORTION, CELIBACY, ADOPTION, OR LUCK

If you don't want children, then you usually don't have the luck to be naturally infertile. Instead, you have to use contraception, be willing to have an abortion - or be willing to bear a child and give it up for adoption.

You're always hearing about people who are "trying" to get pregnant. It's really no one's business, but couples today like to tell you anyway that they are or were "trying." Making love to each other seems to have turned into "trying!" (Yeesh!) But with the cost of raising children today, requiring two incomes almost always (this is not necessarily a feminist move), MORE PEOPLE ARE TRYING NOT TO GET PREGNANT THAN EVER!

BUT THE POINT OF THIS POST IS TO ASSURE YOU, that you CAN BE A NMNK having become a biological mother or father and given up the child for adoption. And we are NOT holding that against you!

Recently I learned that psychologists often view the person who is the Black Sheep in the family to be the healthiest person in it.

Often the Blacksheep is the person who admits there is a problem and that means others have to change. Though sometimes it's just a matter of being "different" as in the one who hasn't married and had children.

In a dysfunctional relationship (be that the family of origin or the "family at work) people are somehow assigned or grow into their roles and even if they're sick roles and they get used to being in them. The Black Sheep on the other hand, wants change.

When the Black Sheep wants change, the others who don't want change or who are afraid to change may be mightly compelling in their behavior to keep the status quo, even if the status quo is sick.

They may kick the Black Sheep out of the family or fire them at the office, BLAME THEM entirely for the problem, or be exceptionally critical and judgemental against them. By abandoning or isolating a family member, as in the case of shunning, that person's overall situation is weak. They will no longer have the benefits of being a member of the so called "building block" of society - the family!


If they love their family (or need their job), and many do despite everything, they may go back and agree to their old role, rather than not have any connection at all.

REMEMBER MICHEAL JACKSON and THE JESUS JUICE

Remember Micheal Jackson and the "Jesus Juice," the wine he was having kids drink to warm them up for being silly about wearing their underpants and sleeping with him - a grown man - a stranger - in his bed? My blood is boiling at the way this creep is going down in history as a great entertainer and humanitarian.

Just because this blog is NEVER MARRIED NO KIDS, just because I don't have kids and never wanted any doesn't mean that I hate kids. I think kids deserve a whole lot more than they are getting. And that includes protection from opportunistic parents who would actually allow their child to spend time with a rich never married singer-celebrity simply because he is a rich never married singer-celebrity. Irresponsibly allowing their children to be exposed to this - especially after the first trial and strong rumors of payoffs prior to that - just for the goodies, is greedy and sick.

One friend said "Well, he's meeting his maker now." I wish I could be so religious. I'm not. And I don't think the spectacle of eternal damnation excuses us as a society for putting the emphasis on popularity instead of values!

What is this shi* doing on the New York Times Best Seller list? Is the American public, women in particular, this INSECURE that we need another "expert" to tell us how to get and keep men?

No, he's not being funny, he's serious when he says that a man needs COOKIE (read NOOKIE) and if he has to wait a whole month or more to get it from you HE IS GOING TO CHEAT. Who wants or needs men in our personal lives like that? NOT ME!

MEN ARE NOT ALL LIKE THIS. The biology as destiny argument is worthless!

MEN WORTH HAVING IN YOUR LIFE ARE NOT LIKE THIS.

Mature men, who are not ego buffed by celebrity and groupies hanging off their *ocks, know that TRUE INTIMACY and REAL COMMITMENT are not dependent on sexual functioning. Yes, people go through pregnancies, illnesses, loose their libidos or their ability to get it up. Men worth having aren't demanding sex from their women who are undergoing radiation and chemotherapy for breast cancer, for instance.

Do some others assume that because you've never married and divorced (or lived with someone spouse-like and split up) that you are - well, not experienced with heartbreak? This blog understands that being NMNK is often a choice but sometimes it's just the way your life went despite your best efforts. WHATEVER, now that you fit in our CATEGORY, you are subject to the sam BS the rest of us are experiencing. Maybe you tried to join the ranks of the married and never got there. I dare say that some of you may be NMNK because of a heartbreak that occurred at some time in your life and you've never really gotten over him or her.

This blog is NOT about being unloving or unloved, however. I simply propose that for some of us creating "family" has much more to do with choice - having a family of friends. Some of us are truly "loners" but others of us have lives full of people. We don't need as much as some others or we get our need for companionship and socialization from people we are not married to or creating families with.

People often ask me invasive personal questions - even in public with other strangers around - wanting to know the details of my love life, sex life - present or past - and it always pisses me off. In fact, I've distanced myself from more than one person - male persons in particular - who have put me on the spot "just wanting to know."

The truth is, your personal life is personal unless you don't want it to be. You don'tOWE anyone any explanations for why you are the way you are - single and childless - and it used to be that such questions were UNDERSTOOD to be THE HEIGHT OF RUDENESS. I wish I had a standard answer to shut these rude questioners up but I seem to feel the eyes upon me expecting me to make a pronouncement. But when I do, I suspect that they are wondering if I'm just a great actress.

What kind of retorts have YOU made when someone tries to disarm you or make your lifestyle suspect?-

MORE WOMEN 40-44 remaining CHILDLESS

Here's a 2008 U.S. Today article on the stats of childless women in their early 40's. Let's face it. Just because it's news that some wealthy actress has gone ahead and adopted a child or had a child later in the usual fertility range without a husband doesn't mean anyone without wealth should follow in her footsteps. Do you really have the right to expect family and friends to compensate for your inability to provide child care? When you work a regular job or have a career you have little to no time for also raising children.

ABORTION IN DEMAND as UNITED STATES ECONOMY COLLAPSES

Reading in the news lately, Planned Parenthood and other clinics that provide contraception and abortion health services are getting a huge number of calls as women who used to have private health insurance require exams and contraception or turn to abortion because they can't imagine being able to afford a child.

To me this news is also about the economic aspect of having children which takes maturity and sophistication to understand and accept. While the economic crisis continues to put pressure on us, many women (and men) are coming to grips with the fact that bearing and raising a child to maturity is expensive.

No, Sister here is not for any government enforcement of the use of contraception or abortion as they do in c Communist China! However, more people I talk to are are getting irate about the fact that they feel overtaxed to support and raise the children of people who have as many children as God sends them while they can't afford their own.

In truth, if the only people who had children were the ones who would be guaranteed to want them, love them, and be able to afford them the population of the earth would plummet.

What we think of OCTOMOM

Yeeeeesh! Now, before Sister here gets to spitting, Ocotmom is not entirely at fault here for having so many children in one pregnancy. You see, when a person is treated with fertility drugs or implanted with embryos, it is common to become pregnant with more than one (1) fetus. Usually only one or two survive. IN THIS CASE IT SEEMS EVERY ONE OF THEM SURVIVED !

SECONDLY, let's blame the doctor. WAS HE OUT OF HIS MIND? What about his moral obligation to see into a few facts about Octomom's life, such as the fact that this woman already had children and apparently was struggling to support the ones she already had because - ah - typical - no father(s) in the household!

OK, I truly hope these children were "in" on coming to this earth in such strange circumstances. As is, they are liable to be media darlings for some time... May they not be deprived of a single thing they need...

ARE YOU AN OBJECT OF PITY AND CONTEMPT ?

OK.... I'm NOT going to tell you your personal perceptions are all off... HOWEVER, it is time for you - if you have been made to feel this way - to STOP INTERNALIZING OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS OF YOU!

THERE IS NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU ARE A NEVER MARRIED NO KIDS person !

Here are some things some people might consider being ashamed of:

Not using contraception when they damn well know they are not "ready" for a child or their sex partner(s) are "not ready!"

Having children they do not want and abusing them - taking it out on the kid.

Going after their friends' boyfriend/husband or girlfriend/wife rather than going to getting their own!

Keeping relationships going that are going NOWHERE because they don't want to be single!

Going around with the attitude that ANY marriage would be better than NO marriage (i.e. thinking it's better to tell people later that you are divorced rather than NEVER MARRIED!)

I'm SURE you can come up with other despicable things people do in order to NOT be NEVER MARRIED NO KIDS!

GRANDMOTHER GIVES BIRTH TO OWN GRANDSON

Click on the link above to get to one of many news stories today about the oldest woman in the UK to give birth, age 66, pregnant with a son a month before her 67th birthday. The British woman could not get fertility treatments in the UK so she went out of the country.

OK. Personally, I think this is SELFISH, but how selfish? I believe if you're going to have children you ought to do so with a reasonable belief that you will live to see your child to adulthood. BUT BEING AN ORPHAN used to be VERY COMMON!

MEN THIS AGE HAVE BEEN HAVING CHILDREN (with younger, fertile, women) for ages. THEY DON'T GET ATTACKED LIKE THIS ! (And because I am all for CHOICE, I can't imagine making sterilization or abortion mandatory!)

Secondly, today, because of so many irresponsible PARENTS, lots of GRANDPARENTS are raising their grandchildren.

MOTHERS DAY FOR THE NEVER MARRIED NO KIDS SET

Mothers day.... OK, very likely you HAD a mom and a dad... in fact it's near impossible that you didn't ! Even some trees have males and females. But what's it like for those of us who have never become parents ourselves? Well I'd like to see something like the NATIONAL DAY FOR THE CHILDLESS, but I'm afraid it would become a pity fest for those who are undergoing major medical miracles to become fertile.

WHY IS THERE NEVER A CELEBRATION OF CHILDLESSNESS?

Is it possible that some people out there are so under the pressure to have children, feeling even guilt and shame that they dare not try to put themselves through living hell to produce children? Yes it is possible! I've hear of women in their twenties demanding fertility drugs after a mere one year of sex without contraception!

You know what? There is no shame in not having children!

Sister here... I'm a bitching! The local YMCA is always hounding me to volunteer or donate more money, but I've learned that what is most subsidized by the YMCA is children's camps and programs. The emphasis is, as usual on CHILDREN and FAMILIES. My local YMCA even has a board dedicated to the BIRTH of BABIES that belong to members and A MEMBERS JUST MARRIED BOARD. I would love to see a board that celebrates those of us who DO NOT BREED and who DO NOT MARRY! Is it possible that I cannot expect this because the Y, is after all the Young Men's CHRISTIAN Association ?!

We sure do hope that newly inaugurated President Barack Obama will do what hurts the fewest Americans while he works on getting our terrible economy back into a healthy condition - something that his speech today was laced with. But what I want to talk about today is how he and his wife were marketed as a very together married couple - a dynamic duo - and the way Michelle let it be known that her being a mother to those two smiling little girls is her priority. (Of course Hilary Clinton had to emphasize her motherhood too...) Maybe this is how political candidates and wives of - first lady candidates have to talk to (What Should We Call It? Middle America?) to get elected. No doubt the cute daughters who love their daddy helped elect Obama and we will see lots of photo-op of the good family man and husband in the next four years. Maybe, Obama will even leave the White House in four years untarnished with personal scandle in a way President Bill Clinton could never. I certainly hope so. If y ou're going to be married let's hope it's happy.

BUT I'M WONDERING WHEN A PRESIDENT WHO IS NEVER MARRIED AND NO KIDS - COMPLETELY CAREER ORIENTED - WILL EVER BE ELECTED. The truth is those of us who do not get married and do not have children are looked upon as not as dependable and reliable. The typical NMNK is suspected of somehow goofing up when it comes to their personal life. Unless maybe, the NMNK has a vow to GOD through a religious order.
